who said they was going to fit it ????
*alarm bell*

Fitting external wall insulation is notoriously difficult to get right, and isn't something anyone should start doing without seriously researching it, doing some test installations, and really getting the detailing right before rolling it out.

There was a company in Goole that did dozens of hours for the council without knowing what they were doing, and ended up with water pouring down the backs of the insulation because they'd got the detailing wrong at the top and around the windows, leading to severe damp problems and them having to go back and rip it all off and do it properly at their own expense, which must have cost them into the millions.

There is a reason they're classed as hard to treat houses.

if you think about it, on a lot of houses you're going to have to remove and then reinstall guttering, drainpipes, waste pipes, gas flues etc then with each window and door fitting you have to actually get the detailing right, so fitting basically new window surrounds on all windows that you're sure aren't going to leak between the EWI and the wall. Get it wrong and it's a major headache to put right afterwards.

We're contemplating getting involved, but very slowly at first to ensure we get it right if we do go down that line, and I'm pretty wary about it and the risks of getting it wrong tbh.

It's linked specifically to lower super output areas that I don't think have been allocated yet. To give you an example, last time I tried to get funding for this sort of thing with this sort of criteria it was limited to about 18 electoral wards out of over 100 and of those identified in the lower super output areas and most were social housing. It could have been changed in the last couple of months but the last I read it was going to be an extremely limited geographical market. When you think about it, it has to be targeted, I seem to remember they have ÂŁ190 million a year to spend across many measures, so about enough to do all the solid wall social housing projects in the poorest areas. It's certainly not enough to cover the 40% ish of houses with solid walls which would be in the region of 8-9 million houses.

If you're in the right place at the right time with the right tender applications there will definitely be some money to be made but I worked with the utilities for many years and everything will go out to tender, once that process has been gone through the winning tendees will deliver ECO for the utilities. I'd be surprised if the tendering isn't going on now.
