Hi everyone,

My mother's landlord has asked me about the possiblity of installing economy 7 storage heaters, at another of his properties.

Now as this is something l have never undertaken, so any advice would be appreciated.

Obviously a meter change will be necessary. ( will the DNO charge for this?)

Now l have seen one of these new meters in action (mine is prepayment but has the facility to provide a single tariff mode or economy 7), due to being accidentally placed onto economy 7 by the DNO.

That sorts the supply out.

From there on is where l am somewhat confused.com.

Im assuming that l would need some form of timer control, so that the storage heaters can only be turned on during economy 7 hours.

Can anyone provide me with any info which l may find useful.

Am l approaching this correctly?

At the moment, we are very much in the planning stage and l need as much information as l can possibly gather, so that l can present it to my mother's landlord. No work will be undertaken as yet. It is merely a case of finding out what is required, so that he can make a decision, depending on the costs involved.

Thanks every1. All feedback welcome, good or bad... :)

you wire the heaters to a separate CU, generally a 2.5mm radial to an FCU for each heater. ask your DNO about the timing as there are different meters.

You won't need a seperate timer, economy 7 is "active" for 7 hours during the night, so the economy 7 meter does the timings for you.

As Tel said all ccts go to their own CCU just leave the tails ready for the DNO. I dont know about your area but down here you are limited to 15KW off peak. You will need to know the sizes of the rooms to get the right size heaters, any catalogue will give you this info. You may also need a dual element hot water cylinder or a dual supply switch to take advantage of the E7 immersion. I think modern meters may be timed but if not the DNO will put in a teleswitch which takes care of the switching.
