Economy 7 timer

Can someone explain how these differ from a normal manual timer? Is it just the fact that it has a boost incorporated aswell?

Got to change one tomorrow but was wondering if fitting two manual ones would do the same thing? Ie timer on economy 7 hours and other used essentially as a boost. £65 for economy 7 timer

They operate in the same way. If you are just fitting a new one you would be able to leave the back box and just change the front plate, 5 minute job. Easier than trying to fit 2 separate timers.

Have to agree with above a 5 min job all the wiring is done, just match up the numbers on the back of the switch.

No doubt it's easier but what's cheaper? If I fit 2 normal clocks it's £40 economy 7 £65

I suppose the time involved might take a couple of hours to swop over to two clocks. And then the customer has to remember to alter them for GMT & BST.

Does the timer heat the element for the full 7 hours?

The thermostat in the cylinder will come into play....it's receiving power for 7 hours but will obviously cut in and out during that time.

As far as I'm aware it does. It should get the feed from a db which is energised by a time clock at the mains. Or from a teleswitch meter.

Normally radio teleswitch is only for storage heaters, and manual timer is for immersion heater. That's why punters have trouble when it comes to time to put the clocks back/forward.
