Hi Guys,
I hope you're all having a relaxing Sunday.
I'm currently studying my level 1 C&G 7202 in Bedford, 1 day a week.
I have been trying hard to find entry level electrical work without success; Whenever an electrician hears that I'm only on a level 1 course, they cut the conversation short saying they will get back to me. One guy did actually get back to me, only to say that he wishes me all the best but that he hired a Level 3 instead.
Therefore I decided to get myself an ECS laborer card, to open up my opportunities. Unfortunately they have changed the rules, so now I can't get the card unless I'm already employed... but I can't get employed on site without the card.
Quote directly from the ECS website:
"From 1st October 2017 proof of employment by an Electrical Contractor or other Electrotechnical employer will be required for initial applications for the Electrical Labourer card."
Why is it so difficult just to get some experience and a foot in the door, has anyone else had similar problems starting out in the industry?
