Hello ,I am Italian guy and I want to start work as electrician in UK (London) I am electrician for more than 20 years but never work before as electrician in UK ...I really cannot understand which card I need if ecs card or cscs card or 17th edition and where i can get the book to study before to have a exam does anybody can help me what i have to do ? thanks

cscs card is for labourers. ecs card allows you to work on site as an electrician. the 17th edition is the current version of the UK regs. for electrical installations. this can be done as 12 weeks ( 1 evening per week ) or as a 3/4 day course. cost at a college is around £250. if you do a search on this forum, there's loads of useful stuff in previous threads. anything else, just post a thread.

you should be conversant in the 17th edition regulations if you want to do electrical work in the U.K. so do that course first , although the regs book unfortunately costs £70 itself.
Then to get either a cscs or ecs card , you will need to do the health & safety assessment , so do that 2nd.

then decide if you want your italian qualifications assessed by the JIB to get a ECS card , if not just get the cscs card , which will probably be easier to obtain.

It would need to be the ECS assessment or approved equivalent, and not the CSCS one, in order to obtain an ECS card.

and how it works to get 17 the edition unfortunately I really can t find something on internet any body maybe can post me phone number or address whatever thing can help me thanks

check with your local colleges. you might just get in as intakes are september. you will need a copy od BS7671 17th edition.

Your local colleges in the part of london your in or the is ABLE skills dartford Kent no idea of anywhere else in london as I have never been there lol roughly it will cost you arooun £300 - 500 ishor City and Guilds website put in the course number your after eg 2382-12 which is for the 17th edition amendment no 1 2011 and then input your post code will give you a list of all training providers near youOh and get the book from amazon or similar bookseller amazon usually cheaper than most

Also you may want to get the 2382-12 Exam success book also from Amazon it will show you some example questions which may help you
Its a multiple choice exam and isnt hard if you prepare

I just checked my local college and college around too , cause I need get 17th edition ,but are really expensive , can i study home with some book or some dvd and then give exam ?i just saw on ebay dvd which prize looks to be ok ,but I don t know if the dvd can prepare me appropriately to the exam?

exam success book 2382-12 which is on amazon as I said and then get the Green BS7671 2008 amendment No1 2011 read both of these over and over then you amy be able to find somewhere to jsut take the exam and On Site Guide also green may be of some benefit

When I done it with NICEIC, they said I had to attend the training as part of the course. They did not allow me to do the exam without attending the course.

Yeah but thats jsut the NIC was the same on the private course i did But some providers allow you to jsut do the exam or some just a morning learning session and the exam in the afternoon

The college were I did my 2330 also did the exam only for £50
