I've only done five so far, but ...... am I correct in thinking that every circuit in an installation must be detailed and tested on the EIC, even if you only work on two of them? That's what I've done so far. For example, the last job involved kitchen ring final alterations, and an extension of the cooker circuit to include a connection unit. For the EIC, I tested the whole lot: upstairs and downstairs lighting, upstairs and downstairs rings, extension ring, boiler, shower .... even though I didn't touch them. Someone told me at the weekend that I've been wasting my time, and only worked-on circuits need be detailed and tested (as per Minor Works Cert). Any advice would be welcome thanks chaps .

Yep unfortunatley you have been wasting your time. It is an Electrical Installation Certificate. You only inspect an test the work YOU have installed. Also from your description it sounds like the circuits you worked on should have had a minor works certificate issued, as you have only altered/ extended the ccts, and not installed a new cct from the ccu.

Its not wrong I don't think. On my NIC domestic installer certs there is a section that lets you state whether its a new installation an addition or an alteration. The reason I said MWC is that an MWC is only one sheet and quicker and easier to fill out rather than 3 sheets for an EIC. On an alteration/addition all thats required is an MWC, so even if you got 2 ccts I would just fill out 2 MWC's. Your way is a bit tidier I must admit, but time is money as they say!:)

easy rule of thumb is if the work extends back into the consumer unit it is probbably an "installation cert"
if the work does not go back to the consumer unit it is probably a "minor works cert"
and if replacing an accessory it is nothing although a minor works cert proves all was well and good when you left.
