Asking for a friend who works in the health and safety sector, was asking me about the proper time intervals for EICRs in commercial and industrial settings.

I had a look in BS7671 and I see ( Reg 652.1 ) that it doesn't give specific timescales for various settings, only general guidance.

I found this video online (the veracity of which I cannot be sure) which seems to suggest 3 years for factories, and for some commericial premesis like offices, every 5 years.

I wondered if anyone might be able to confirm whether these timescales are accurate, and where they come from, if not BS7671 (perhaps it is elsewhere in the regs but I would have thought it would be in this part of section 6, if anywhere). To be fair I haven't checked in Guidance note 3, maybe there's info in there about it.

I see some other related threads on here about this subject, but nothing pertaining specifically to EICR frequency in terms of commercial and industrial

TIA

I have not watched the video.

The date for the initial inspection following installation is set by the designer. The frequency between subsequent inspections set by the inspector in discussion with the Electrical Duty holder(s) for the site.

Guidance for dates between inspections is in GN3 and that all it is - Guidance - to assist with setting up the maintenance plan for the installation. Such times can be reducred or extended subject to what is seen on the inspection and other factors likely to have an impact.

I have recently worked at a large site - mix of industrial / production / commercial offices - where the electrical systems are inspected over a 9 year rolling inspection timeline to cover the entire site. Then it starts all again.
