I have my C&G 2330 level 3 exams in a few weeks, inspection & testing etc. I've got access to a small unoccupied terraced house and I have decided to do some testing practice there.

However, I've come across a bit of a problem - the electric fire seems to be wired into the downstairs ring. not normally a problem, but there seems to be no access at all to the connection point. As it's not 'paid' work, I don't particularly want to go to the hassle and waste time to uninstall the fire to get to the back where the likely connection point is at this stage. I will do this and then fit an accessible fcu, but I can't spare the additional time at the moment due to study, and the house isn't being used.

Therefore, purely from a testing point of view, this equipment will need to be removed from the circuit when I do my insulation tests. What would you guys recommend ? If the fire is still in the circuit but switched off, would it still affect the readings? Should I get access to the fire's functional switch on the side and then disconnect it?

Cheers
Steve

Depends if its got DP isolation on the switch.

I have normally found that a socket or the like is installed behind the upright of the fire surround making it impossible to access.

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
