Hello
I have a Heatrae Sadia Electromax 9kW electric boiler that does hot water and central heating.
Recently it broke and someone from Baxi came to fix it (side note, if anyone knows anyone other than Baxi who will work on this boiler then please let me know, they seem really pricey). They fitted a new control panel and the boiler worked fine again. However, the next day I noticed that my dual fuel towel rail wasn't working properly - the electrical heating element had power (flashing lights etc) but wasn't heating up the rad.
I couldn't see how it could be linked to the boiler so assumed it was an unlucky coincidence and got the heating element replaced. Sadly the issue continued. My plumber and electrician had no idea why it wasn't working, everything tested fine.
I then tried switching the boiler off at the fuse board and magically this fixed the issue. I told my plumber and he said it sounds like the central heating pump in the boiler is running continuously, so when the heating element in the towel rad turns on, it's trying to heat all the water in the central heating system with just 600W, any heat it gives to the water just gets circulated around the system. This made sense and was the only thing that explained the issue.
I took the lid off the boiler to take a look. The pump (which I identified from the manual) was making a loud whirring noise (with the heating turned off on the big green switch on the front of the boiler). It was set to 3 (max) so I turned it down to 1 (min). However it is still on 24/7 unless I turn the boiler off at the fuse board again, continually wasting energy and preventing the towel rad from working properly.
Anyone know how I can get the boiler to communicate properly with the pump again?
Thanks very much
Louis

- TL;DR
- Electric boiler pump running 24/7 even when heating off - need to get it back to normal functionality.
