hi guys/ gals,im a member on the tilers forum .lookin for advice to do things like spotlights etc on domestic installations/bathrooms is there a 10 or 14 day course out there that actually qualifies you to do this type of thing? cheers for any advice:)

Welcome to our world kitty :D:D

In answer to your question, errrrrrrr no.

This work is notifiable so this would mean you would need to join a scheme provider, which means you will have to do the job properly :D

Let us know where in the world you are, someone will be interested in doing it for you, if you are in West Yorks i will offer my services.

If you could do what you wanted, then add on the cost of the very expensive test kit to test it with, then god knows how long to learn how to fill in certs etc it would come to a tidy sum. You will probably save just by using a spark, and save even more if you buy the materials as well.
Cheers.......Howard

It does but you will need to join a scheme at around ÂŁ400, plus all the documentation, insurance, test equipment etc etc at around ÂŁ1000.

Do you do that many to justify the cost?

hiya jason, yes i think if thats the price im looking at laying out id make it back in a year or two by doing the work myself, see with part p do you need to update etc as time goes on?

once a year and then the calibration of the equipment. dont forget but you might already have it the insurance (liability) but you will need to make sure it covers you for electrical work as well

Once you have the 'qualification' (if you can call it that) from this course you link to, you will then be able to join one of the part p scheme providers. This costs approx ÂŁ400 each year - it is an annual fee and you will be re-assessed every year. On top of that you need to buy test equipment, have the right books available, insurance in place, and a complaints procedure, risk analysis etc. It is not as simple as paying the fee once.

cheers for the replys guys,
Electrical Training Courses in Staffordshire and Wolverhampton in the West Midlands

see a course like this does this give you any qualification that allows you to do domestic installs/?

I did my 17th with these in Stoke, you'll be expected to know exactly what you're doing in advance as it really just brushes over everything with no time for questions or making sure everyone's understood. It's very geared towards coaching you to pass the test really. If you feel you'd need the foundation course then I'm sorry you'll really have no hope of understanding and passing the 17th in that space of time. You'll only need a 17th edition course and be competent to join one of the schemes, they won't be bothered if you have the fake "Part P" qualification or not from what my assessor said. As others have said it will cost you best part of ÂŁ1k per year with testing equipment, books, insurance and self cert scheme and all these are recurring fees.

Whereabouts are you? You can't be too far from me and I have a downstairs loo, ensuite and main bathroom that all need tiling if you'd be interested in a swap of trades instead to save you the grief? Assuming you're good that is as the missus is a perfectionist ;)
