Hi
I have an electric fire in my front room which is operated solely with the remote control.
To operate the fire I press standby which puts on the glow. I then press another button which kicks in the blower. There is also another button which gives me the option of going onto speed 2 and then back to speed 1.
About a month ago I pressed standby which activated the glow, but when I pressed 1 to put the fire on it attempted to start but immediately quit.
Three weeks later I now have nothing, not even the glow will come on.
I hope someone can give me some help on this.
Thanks
Dave

Does the remote have batteries in it / if so check em

Sounds like a fault needing professional attention I'm afraid. You could check that the remote is sending a signal by looking at the business end of the remote through a digital camera (phone camera will do) whilst pressing the remote buttons. If you see a fairly bright dot flash on the screen the remote batteries are OK and it is is sending a signal - it may be a corrupt signal of course. If you see nothing on the screen then it may be worth getting another remote before calling in the cavalry.

I have already ordered a new battery, it should arrive tomorrow. Even though I still have a light showing on my remote I thought I should replace that first.
My thinking at the moment is that if that doesn't I am just going to get a new fire. I have priced some wall mounted electric fires on the internet and could pick one up for around ÂŁ100. I could be wrong but I'm thinking it would probably cost me around that to get someone to look at it, and fix it possibly with a new part.

just a thought... does the receiver in the fire need batteries?

Thats something I never even thought about. I'll have to have a look for that.

Lol, if it does you should slap an advertisement in your local newspaper offering to collect for free any 'broken' fires from unsuspecting punters and sell them on as refurbished after you've replaced all the batteries ;)

I can't believe they would put batteries in an electric fire.

why not. they used to put them in gas fires for the ignition.

Yes batteries in gas fires are fine. It saves having to plug them in for the very short time the ignition button is pressed, but batteries an electric fire that has to be plugged in anyhow? Electricity is already there. A backup battery for a clock perhaps, but surely not for an IR receiver that is critical to the operation of the appliance, and is constantly discharging whilst it watches out for the remote button to be pressed. Why would they do that?
