Can anyone suggest a cheap but accurate Electric Meter to be used in a caravan. Reason :- I have 5 vans on a site in mid wales and have recently received the electric bills for the winter quarter, 4 of the 5 bills range between ÂŁ30 and ÂŁ45 and feels about right considering usage. Van 5 has come in at ÂŁ129 and was used about the same, 99% sure nothing was switched on between mid November and beginning of March. The site agrees it looks a bit high and want to charge ÂŁ60 to fit a tandem meter to compare readings, if the meters tally I'm out ÂŁ60 with nothing to show for it. However, if I get my own for ÂŁ20 - ÂŁ30 and the meters tally I'm only out half the amount and have a meter I can use again. The site will accept this approach but the meter must be fitted inside the van and be a known/acceptable make. The dead tests I have done so far haven't shown up any faults which made suspect an iffy meter, I will be spending some time at the weekend with clamp meter to see what that shows up. Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Steve

I'm guessing the supply is single phase. How many amps is the supply? If the supply is small you might get away with a direct DIN mount meter. Otherwise consider using an Owl monitor at around 30quid from Tesco/Homebase etc, they're not exactly classI metering devices but they're fairly accurately if installed correctly.
