hey guys,

bypassed oven timer yesturday, as was stuck on auto so oven wouldnt come on. oven now comes on no problems but when i put the grill on it sparked and tripped, now when i turn appliance on the grill stays on when switch in off position, move it slighty to on and it goes off, move it again then it sparks and trips????

what have i done wrong???? cheers

If the grill didn't trip before you started the job then it's something you've done that's causing the fault. Maybe return all the wiring to its original state and see if the tripping fault disappears.

It might be that the reason the oven wouldn't come on, is because the grill switch is dodgey.
Might be that the timer won't allow the grill and the oven on at the same time.
Or it could be that the timer is faulty, and is perhaps connected to the grill element, and whenever you turn on the grill, power is going to the timer?

If it helps, I came across one where the oven lamp was replaced into a broken lamp holder which shorted out. This took out the lamp wiring and welded the control switch contacts together. It does sound like if not the lamp, something else has caused a similar fault,
