my electric shower is kaput, it keeps tripping the fuse, and only cold water.

i m just a DIYer.

my question is can i legally replace the electric shower myself, or if not who do i need to do it, and please explain why? ie part p regs or such

many thanks for your help in advance

A like for like replacement of your shower will not invoke the Part P police unless

You need to fit an RCD to the circuit if it hasn't already got one, this is because most shower manufacturers insist that the shower have this and we need to abide by the manufacturers instructions.

If though you get a bigger unit in power and need to replace the cable, upgrade the Fuse/MCB/RCD then all this needed to be done under Part P.

Who will do it, well if it's a matter of taking the old off and putting a new on, if you can find a plumber with any sense they could do it for you.

Personally as i'm an electrician, and I think we are the dogs danglies, I would get a spark in.

anyone can work electrically in their own house you could even rewire it aslong as you notified your local building control. A replacement shower like for like is non notifiable so yes you can..

but if your not competant/confident to do this i would recommend getting a spark in to do it because the spark will have the appropriate test equipment etc

plumber???? my experience of a plumber changing a shower..... he extended the 6mm cable inside the shower with 6" of 2.5mm twisted and taped. after it melted together, customer wondered why the MCB kept tripping.
