Hi i'm after some advice, i've been asked to quote for a rewire in a care home which has a single phase supply, they have requested 5x 8.5kw showers to be installed
can you apply diversity to electric showers and is there a device which allows only 1 shower to be working at one time?
I have suggested they have one or two electric showers and have the others feed via the boiler.

thanks

Harry

Have you asked them why they require 5 showers? Id also as them if it is possible that they may use all the showers at the same time. How they intend to use the showers will affect your design.

Hi,
This dwelling will be a converted into a 6 bedroom house for special needs students. I know theres not much chance of them having 5x electric showers
on a single 100a supply but just wondered if there's anything on the market which allows only one shower to be used preventing overload.

Cheers

You would need a shower priority controller that either has one shower as a main shower and will switch the others off or one that allows only one shower on at a time. The forum sponsor meteor sell these here however I think the most they do is three showers so you would need to be able to link them to manage five showers. You may mange to run two showers simultaneously if there were no other power requirements but I would not risk it.

I think the best option would be to advise your customer to install a megaflow cylinder. This allows multiple showers, baths etc to be used at the same time with no loss in pressure.
Their not cheap but I would imagine the cost would be comparable to the installation of 5 electric showers.

my answer was going to be daisy chain them all on a 6mm radial, 32A breaker. :icon10: ,then they could only use 1 at a time,:001_9898:, but i think dagrat's idea is better.

get the plumber to price it then you give quote and make few bob easily.. ive only done it twice so far and has ended up a good weeks work but your taking a chance, thats the way i felt anyway. but it worked so... phewwwwww
