hi totally new to the site so do apologise in advance if this question has been raised in prevuios posts!

Q. looking for the correct course to gain a fully regonised qulification as a electricain, i have been looking at the intensive courses(which come with a steeper price tag) and evening classes ( 1/2 years)

i work full time but i'm willing to do the intensive 6/7 week course if this would be of a greater benifit too the learning!

basically i am mainly getting confused by the city & guilds and NVQ levels??(i am looking for the uk/eu level of training)

sorry to sound like a newbie, jus looking for the right path to become a fully qualified electrician.

cheers, an more response the better will be much appreicated from thos in the kno!!

Depends what you want to do. I believe those 7 week courses are aimed at becoming a self-employed domestic installer.

Ideally (in my opinion) you should be looking for the 2330/2357 (AFAIK the 2330 is being phased out so you'll be lucky to get on that), the 2357 includes the NVQ so you have to be doing it as a day job.

For the record, NVQ is basically a log of your practical work. It's not a course so to speak - you don't learn anything for it at college. The 2330 is based around learning and doesn't need you to be working in the industry. But that's all changing with the 2357, so you need to speak to your college/whichever training provider about that.

Edit: Don't believe it when they tell you you'll earn ÂŁ50k+. You won't.

As above and it does not matter what course you do with the state of the country people are being laid off not taken on and your main stumbling block will be lack of experience and we have a lot of experienced sparks looking for work on this forum so dont believe the hype its earn upto ÂŁ50K so in a year if you earn 50p then you have no comeback as the important words are up to.

Good luck

WHAT!!!! NOW YOU TELL ME  and i have my last exam tomorrow - think i better cancel the world cruise holiday :D

To OP there are a lot of mixed feelings about intensive courses - and especially some of the providers. Do a few searches or just scroll back hald a dozen pages and you will find some relevant threads. Unfortunately this is probably a bad time to be starting with all the uncertainty and changes with college courses.
