Hi all, I am studying for a HNC in Building Services and have been set an electrical design question. I need to calculate the total load for a small factory, taking into account power factor, and diversity. I then need to select a back up power system bassed on my calculation.
Is the calculation i have done correct?
Loads
4 x 45 Amp CNC Machines = 180 Amps
4 x 32 Amp Conventional = 128 Amps
1 x 32 Amp Welding set = 32 Amps
No diversity has been applied.
180 + 128+ 32 = 390 Amps
390 Amps – Machining Load
42.8 Bench equipment & lighting Load
69.4 Amps Total Office Load
Total Ampage = 503 Amps
503 x 0.692 = 349.9kVA (Apparent power)
Taking into account 0.8 power factor
349.9 x 0.8 = 279 KW (Actual power)
I have determined 0.692 from calculating the below formula
Line Voltage of supply, which in this case in 400v
503 x (400 x √3) = 349.9kVA
1000
Have I calculated Kva correctly? Have I included power factor correctly?
Any feed back on this would be really appreciated.
