Hi ladies and gents,

Ive booked myself on the 2391-2, in November. This means that between now and then is massive revison time.

Has anybody got any old question papers, resources, project papers, or anything else that will aid me on passing this course?

thankyou in advance,

John

John, do you mean 2391-20, the design course?
I've got a few exam papers etc from the old 2400 course, from about 2000-2004.
I could scan and email them to you if you want.
I've still got all the printed notes as well, but there's about 200 sides of them!

John, that's an excellent course and a totally underrated qualification but it will benefit you a lot in the future.

If you have your 2391-10 then you will not have to take the practical element of 2391-20 as you are deemed to comply, that normally reduces the fees?

Any queries or questions on the design project or written exam, just post them up and we'll get them sorted!

sounds good then. What did they cover mate? was it "blow your mind" time, or was it going over stuff that you already knew. did you have any design experience before doing the course?
how long did it take to do the project? did maypeople fail?
Thanks,

john

They primarily covered the Design end of it, as it was assumed that everyone would already be familiar with the Erection and Verification elements of it. At first it was a lot of information to take in at once, but it comes together (over four days if I remember correctly). They have some sample papers too which show you the type of questions City & Guilds might ask.

Hadn't done any design worth talking about before doing the course. Took me probably around three months to do the project. (Hard to start but then starts to come together eventually!)

Not sure how many (if any) failed. One person there hadn't done 2391-10 at that stage so would obviously have had to arrange to do the practical inspection and testing element too. Got a Credit in the written paper myself (although I had thought it would be borderline whether I passed or not - thought I messed a few questions up a bit). So I would say that the Distinction is certainly achievable (although of course as City & Guilds don't publish their marking scheme it is pretty much an educated guess as to what they are looking for to distinguish between passes, credits and distinctions).

So it does go over some things with which you should already be familiar, and then they go through some complete calculations for design (although in reality in the exam they are likely only to ask you for certain parts of this rather than going through the whole lot).

If I can dig up my book from it I'll try and fill you in more!

I also bought the Scaddan book which I found interesting, and the IEE Electrical Installation Design Guide - but it's probably more useful for the project than the rest of the course!

They will supply you with the Amicus guides as well.
