Hi,

I have been asked about electrical heating testing. What kind of certificate should I use and what have to be checked? IR, resistance of heating element, visual inspection?
As it is not portable applience than it is not PAT testing.
Any help will be appriciated.

Regards

What kind of electrical heating? Storage heaters? if it is then a normal EIC would be done with LIM on any live testing. unless you can overide the timeclock. but need more info on what type of electrical heating your talking about

As far as I understand it`s just tank with heating element (immersion heater) and usual radiators with water pipes.
Why EIC? It`s existing heating. EICR? How can I note heating test?

Do you mean a domestic electric boiler system ? also because its not portable does not discount PAT test or II&TEE as it is now because if its fixed wiring then EICR or if portable or fixed equipment it II&TEE (formally PAT)

Yes, it`s a domestic electric boiler system. It`s fixed wiring, then how can I note it on EICR and what should be tested? I have never done it before.

Hi Friends!!!

I don't think that during a Periodic Inspection, the tightness of screw terminals could be checked using the EICR/PIR. Sometimes loose wiring can cause high resistance, which in turn causes heating which can lead to a fire. Often the high resistance will be noticed during the 'testing' or second part of the Inspection (although there is no guarantee), a lot will depend on just how high a resistance is being caused by the loose termination. Many Inspectors due to whatever reasons, will not remove accessory fronts to inspect the terminations. Could be that doing such will damage the decor, could be that they have time restraints, or just can't be bothered.

So how do you not check screw tightness during a EICR when you need to disconnect some circuits for testing ie ring continuity ect plus I was always taught to "go around" the connections in a DB when you were in it for good practise
