Hi all
Since i was a kid i wanted to become an electrician after listening to family and friends stories of people they knew who work in the trade and how happy they were with the work they did on a day to day basis.
I started college when i was 19 (3 years as part of a cycling team when i finished school). As the course wasn't starting until September i did the C&G 2377 Pat testing course to get going and worked for a Pat testing company (as i couldn't secure an apprenticeship with an electrical contractor) then in the September started my 2 years of level 2, 2330.
Last March i finally got a job with a company in my area that predominately did "house bashing". O.K not the best but better than no experience what so ever, in September i started my level 3 2330 and enrolled in my NVQ also, so got the ball rolling with that.
Fortunately i have gained some industrial/commercial experience since, and i did 3 months or so of P.V installation. Although not loads I'm happy ive gained a bit.
Now since this March ive had no work as the contracts have dwindled away. Im coming up to finishing my college work, and my NVQ (when i can do some testing)
However i don't feel i have enough experience to go self employed just yet, and cant find anyone that wants to employ an improver.
I appreciate hundreds of thousands of people are in the same position as me, just wanted to know what some of you have done on here?
I.E what other routes could i take with the qualifications i have and/or total career change if necessary? Id love to start a career with a company that i can build a future with, i don't really want to be someone who moves from company to company and never really achieves there full potential.
I can guarantee if your in the Bristol area at some stage over the last couple of months i have either rang or emailed you as i do it on a day to day basis. So apologies for that in advance.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated
