Im an electrician with the City and guilds 2330 Lvel 3, 17th Edition and my Part P EAL VRQ Level 2 qualifications, i wouldd like to know what i need to sign off my own Electrical Installation certificates as i have just completed a full rewire of a property and need to issue the Cert. I am competent in testing and could easily test the property myself but did not know if i can sign off the Certs?

Please help, any opinions welcome...

The only thing you have missing is the 2391 certs, however these are certificates that are a well used method of proving competence. They are not a requirement for you to do certs. If you feel in yourself that you are competent with testing and inspection then you are ready to do the installation cert.

Have you accounted for notification?

are you a member of a scheme? if so then you will notify through there channels or if not the building control would have needed to have been notified before hand

Im not the member of a scheme no, i have been looking into several, justv wasnt completely sure if i could sign off certs without being with one of the schemes...
Thanks for your repsonse

When you say signing off, are you referring to for compliance with BS7671 or for building regulations compliance?

You will need to notify this job to your LABC to say it complies to Part P of the building regs, if your not a member of a scheme the only way you can do it is direct to your building control.

i have just completed a full rewire of a property and need to issue the Cert.

you can not legally issue the cert without being a member of scheme, also to go down Labc route then they should of been informed before work commenced, during and at end of installatrion for inspections(and pay all their fees).

you really should of looked into all this prior to starting.

If you are planning on joining a scheme do it quickly ask to be fasttracked and use this job for your assesment. Strictly not the correct procedure but providing you pass assesment you will get away with it.

You can issue your own cert, even if you dont have 2391,when you join niceic/elecsa/napit they will insist you get the 2391 within 12 months, this proves on paper that you are competent on test & inspection,i am going down the same route on consumer unit upgrade, although i contacted labc and they wanted ÂŁ65 and copies of all my certs, its the only legal way to go until registered with nic/elecsa

I have looked ar the requirements on elecsa etc and as long as you have the 2391 within 12 months they are fine with that,i bet there are 1000s of sparks out there who are top notch and have tested there installs for years, for some the 2391 is a bit daunting after 30 or 40 years in the trade being back in a classroom puts them off,its just a competence thing although i would think insurance company would want it.

yep im afraid you are misinformed they ask for 2382 within 12months but 2391 is not a requirement by any scheme (although in my opinion both 2382 and 2391 should be help prior)
