Hi All,

I went for a interview for a apprenticeship the other day at a firm that manufacturer and install packing machines and i started realizing that i would much prefer getting into that side of the business then being a traditional sparky. They had great perks like you will get the opportunity to travel the world installing their machinery! As you can probably imagine that was of massive interest to me! I haven't heard back from them yet weather i have the job or not but i wanted to ask what would be the best path to get into that sector if i don't get the apprenticeship? I passed my level 2 of electrical installation last year and due to go back to college for level 3 this year.

Thanks

Phil

hang in there phil, responses may be a while as quite a few of us old farts have imbibed freely of the god given fermented malt and hops and reqiure beauty sleep.

Up early Phil, maintenance work is good, I went from house bashing to Maintenance, and back to Commercial, I would have stuck with maintenance if I had the chance but, the chance of plenty of overseas travel was to tempting, so stick with it mate and good luck with the interview results.

Just got a email back from the apprenticeship and i wasn't successful :( Ive spent hours looking for apprenticeships in electrical maintenance sector in my area and there is nothing. Was just wondering if anyone knows of any companies that do work in that industry in the uckfield, east sussex area that i could just drop a email and see if they take interest?

I worked for the DofE doing maintenance on MOD property's until they went Private I think the outfit that does that sort of thing is Mitie, not sure I know it used to be them

Thanks for the reply Pete. just took a look at mitie and i don't think they cover maintenance now. say if i finish my level 3 in electrical installation, where does that leave me in the view of getting employed? because all the jobs i see they want experience so seems like a impossible task.

I know it's bummer aint it? where have you tried looking for work? every tried any Agencies?

just wondering if someone could list the different types of jobs a electrician can do so i can do some research into them individually? I'm open minded in what I'm looking to do but would like to avoid domestic work as it doesn't excite me. I'm thinking of getting into the engineering side so what is the right way to go to realize that?

How old are you Phil? might be worth visiting your local college to get some info on what to do next, why not try looking up the firms/companies that are involved in maintenance, get a good CY typed up and send out letters explaining your goals, you never know someone might bite and offer an Apprenticeship, no harm in asking, and also it shows you are keen, there are plenty of CV templates on the net, iy you want I could send you mine as an example, I wont need it anymore as I'm retired.

I'm 23, 24 in November. I'm due to go back to college this month so i will ask them what they think when i go back. As of CV i have done one but its not that good because i have been ill since a young age and haven't really had the opportunity to develop a decent one. yeah that would be good if you could send me yours just so i can see if i can improve mine. thanks

I'm really good at CV's. Although only ever sent out half a dozen (always got the job mind) I seem to have a knack for them.

Email yours to [email protected] and I'll see what I can do with it.

I'm not going to lie my CV literally has my GCSE results which weren't good, states that i have passed level 2 in electrical installation and then no work experience as i was ill since i left school so there isn't much that you can do to improve it.

There is.
Email it me.

What work experience have you had?
