Hi there,

This is my first time on this forum. I hope I am in the right place because I need some knowledge that I don't have. But first, I'm Niels, I'm 18 years old and I'm from the Netherlands.

Now here is my problem:
I've got an old electromotor that I want to fix. The first step in that would be attaching a power cable to it since it does not have one. Now this might be the simplest thing to you, and I have done some electrical work too in the past, but I just can't figure this one out. It would really mean the word to me if someone could help me out. It doesn't have to be pretty, It just has to work.

These are some photos of where I think the power cables must be attached. and some sort of a descriptive image/chart.

I hope someone could help me out here. Thanks in advance,

It looks like a 3 phase motor, but without access to the proper photos I can't read the wiring/connection diagram.

Usually in Europe these motors tend to be 400/415V, however most homes are only supplied with single phase 230V.

Sometimes the motors allow a 3 phase 230V connection, but not often.

Even then your home supply, even at the same voltage, is usually single phase, not three phase.

So please also include a photo of the incoming supply/fuseboard where you intend to use it

Can you link the pics so they can be directly viewed.
Hi guys, thanks for your reply's!

I'm sorry that the pictures were niet sufficient. I'll try attaching Them as a file, I think that would help. I Will add some new photo's with extra information top.

I'm bot sure weer In am going to user the motor for. If the motor is powerfull enough and runs smoothly enough I might user it to make a wood turning lathe. If not, I'll might user it doe something simpeler like a disk Sander.

Do you guys also know how tot ground the unit? There is a earth sign/mark in the power controll panel. And would it also be possible to controll the speed of the motor?

Thanks in advance!

It is single phase currently the live and neutral go to Z1 and U2 however I cannot make out which way that will make it spin, swapping the link bars as per the diagram will change the rotation. The ground goes to the screw in the corner of the terminal box.

Thanks! Do you think Live (the Brown cable) goes to Z1 and the neutrale (the blues cable) goes to U2. Are u direct because the "N" is on the bolt under U2 in the diagram. And the earh is Just attached underneeth the screen that fixes the terminal box tot the moter?

as westie said. L to Z1. N to U2. swap the links as in your pic. #5 to reverse rotation. can't see the actual kW rating or speed. might be 2.5kW

Hey guys,

Last night I got the motor running! I want to thank you all very much. Without you guys, I couldn't have done this as safe.

The motor still runs fantastic! I didn't notice any problems with it.

I removed the fan before turning it on, grounded it and clamped it down. And when I turned it on, I was surprised at how smoothly it runs. Considering its shape and how long it probably hasn't been ran. It didn't smell, sound, feel or look strange in any regard. I also did a safe test of how much of a kick/jump it would give if I didn't clamp it down. It only moves a little bit, so that's great. I ran it for about 18 minutes straight before it got like coverable shower temperature hot. That's probably the best way to describe it since I didn't measure it. Now I know the unit is in good shape, I'm willing to spend some money and patch it up. I'm trying to find a fitting fan, although I don't know if I can get my hands on a proper fitting one. How strong must these things be? I could get it 3D printed, but it's like a school 3D printer, so I don't really trust that. I hope I can get my hands on something because it would be great if I could increase the runtime. I also had a look at how the cooling works, I was amazed! my love for technology and physics really pleased me. Just so interesting to see that the fan pulls wind trough those fins (which increase surface area) and that heat-conducting metal cools the unit off. I also want to order some cable lugs. I now for have just clamped the bare wire underneath te bolts for test purposes. But if I want to use the motor often and keep it around for a long time I want to do it properly.

Thank you all so much!!

Niels
