Hi All
Im new to the forum and about to start my electrical training as a career change and looking for some advice on what i need to be a competent electrcian. I have looked at a local training centre which provides the following ,

  • Basic Electrical Theory,
  • 17th Edition City and Guilds 2382,
  • Portable Appliance Testing City and Guilds 2377, and the
  • CITY & GUILDS 2393-10 LEVEL 3 CERTIFICATE (Part P compliance. )
  • Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations City and Guilds 2392-10
  • CITY AND GUILDS 2391-10 PERIODIC INSPECTION
Is this sufficient??

I am presuming that you are interested in being a domestic installer under the part p scheme if that is the case you need the EAL VRQ, C&G 2382 17th edition and register with a competent person scheme such as the NICEIC. Thats it the other bits you mention are extras to put the price up.

Hope that helps

If he is looking to become a domestic installer he is missing the EAL level 2 with part p, the main core domestic qualification.

None of the courses he has listed involves any domestic installation practical training.

Acat
Only the Niceic have Domestic installers
Those qualifications would be sufficient for the Niceic but not Napit

The other bits,eg the city and guilds 2391 is required by Napit

He may have to be quick getting entry this way, because it seems that the Government are going to crack down on the Niceic accepting them without proven practical experience

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, i will have to check that the course includes the items you mention.
How do you go about registering with NICEIC? And how much does it cost?
As i am new with little knowledge of the proffession, is there any books you can recommend to get me started? Any help very much appreciated.
Regards David:eek:
