In need of a tool bag as I start my apprenticeship in July. Anybody recommend a decent bag that doesn't cost too much. I don't really like open totes but would like to keep my tools organised and would much prefer a bag and not a box.

Cheers Luke

CK magma is reasonably priced. only drawback is with stuff in the centre, you usually have to take all out to find what you want.

If you do a search m8 you will find loads of threads on tool bags boxes . personally have a look at the CK magma as suggested

stanley technician bag is good for first toolbag.

some people prefer toolboxes but everyone on site etc uses bags so.

I used to use a facom tote till I swapped to veto (veto is not worth it till you get a lot of different hand tool's)

amazon
toolstop
tools247.co.uk
toolmanyardley

are all good places to look

Ones for emergencies

the other two have coat hangers, SDS chiselling bits, pad saws, long flat drill bits, some SDS drills, some plastic spreaders, 3 metal ones ( for filling), an old butter knife, 3 cold chisels (ones a nice one for refitting carpet), a pair of maul grips, a pipe spanner, a meter tails cutter, lump hammers, some other unsavoury items like a wire brush, a wire brush thingy you fit into a drill, pipe grips, an old screwdriver (flat end), 3 rough files of different shapes for plasterboard, you know like a rasp, tin snips (for capping, hah! Capping!), another square metal file, a floorboard saw, a wooden mallet, a rubber mallet, a hammer, set of spare 300mm metal files, then the other buckets are full of tubes of stuff loike mastic, silicone, P4 boat glue (brillant stuff), some brushes left over from the 23 dustpans I stepped on and broke, a guide for the rip saw, instant nails, wood filler

About to finish my first year and have been using CK techs toolbag. Had a Stanley Fatmax for about a month but didnt like it as it was not organised. Does the job for me. I find it big enough i can fit everything i need in the two sides like screwdrivers and pliers, then i can fit lump hammer, claw hammer, full size hacksaw, label printer, smallish spirit level etc in the centre.

if you are just starting, by all means get a lump hammer etc but somethings you might rarely use.

for example we rarely use a dyna tape machine, we use 13mm sockets a lot for 8mm bolts in unitrust etc.

if you get a hacksaw you have two choices.

go for an 18 and 32tpi blade

or 24tpi blade.

if you try cutting strut with a 32 you will be there all day and cant really cut tray, trunking etc with 18

a decent stanley knife is a must and blue irwin blades are the best readily available

How about a nice 200 plus quid designer Veto tool bag, they are all the rage these days don't you know. That should sort all your problems out from what i understand!! lol!!!

When I was an apprentice my first toolbox was a cheap plastic hobby from homebase, it lasted a year which was long enough for me to have established what I wanted as a proper toolbox and how big it would need to be, and of course that I was going to stick with the job.
There's no point spending much to start with until you know what you want and that you have chosen the right career.

The first tool kit I was given was my first job with the low life contractor at ICI was the cheapest of the cheapest Draper set, in a fancy zip up case!
Threw it away and bought the individual tools each week. Bahco, Britool and Wiha for me.

I still have my first tote bag, that is my one and only tool bag I've ever had...Facom 20".

Best tote bag there is, It has a flap so you can cover your tools and it's waterproof.
