Not trying to be nasty but I am pretty suprised at your question, what do you think an Electricians mate should do? Think about it will you.

On your first day as an electricians mate you will be expected to design, test and inspect big 3 phase installations and you will have lots of phasor diagrams to do.
After tea break you will be wiring street lights threw a contactor which will be switched by a sensor and then certificating the work after!
By about 1 oclock you should be 2nd fixing all the heating controls in the flats, should do about 5 of them in a few hours i reckon. See all simple stuff on your 1st day as a sparks mate but day 2 will get harder!!!

Oh and by the end of the week you should be able to know every reg number without looking in the bgb

It should essentially be an electrician's labourer - gophering and helping. Some sites expect more eg second fixing and working without close supervision, and some sites want the mates to do the same work as an electrician but cheaper, which IMO you should only do if you ask to get more involved, and then only under supervision.
I take it from your question you're still in training?

Hehe!! Come on! I know what they would roughly do yes. But would u be left alone and expected to do more than a 'mate' ? Reason being i was on NMW doing jobs as a 'mate' im just wondering what could be so different about this one which happens to pay ÂŁ9 an hour? If you dont ask you dont get! Dont bite

Depends where your working terry really, you could be cutting in boxes on site or cutting up conduit, tray etc. You may be assisting in pulling cables, a bit of second fixing, chasing in walls. List is endless mate but if you have no experience then they wont expect to much i wouldnt have thought. If your keen on learning then this is a great opportunity for you! good luck

That depends on your experience.

I know what my electrician’s mates were expected to do. It’s also why they were paid just one grade below a qualified tradesman once they’d gained experience on the plant. I never touched a lighting circuit for 30+ years, that was mates work. The rest of the time it was assisting the tradesmen as and when required.
