Burnt Fingers
I have worked previously for a Local Authority, mainly on 3ph equipment, but have also re-wired a few of my own houses in the days before part P. I have also done my own workshops and offices and had them inspected, so i am no stranger to the practical side or regulation.
I keep getting asked if i will do electrical work for my customers - to which (unless its change a light fitting or something simple) I refuse - always, because I am not qualified. Competent, probably - qualified no.
I'm studying towards the 2382 and 2392 at the moment but would appreciate any advise on what other training I need to be qualified.
My primary reason is not just to help out my customers - but i'm damned if i am going to pay Building Control to lift my floorboards when I rewire my present house. I do not intend to work as an electrician: I have my own business already, but, like I say I would prefer to be able to help out customers where I can without simply having to say....er actually no, I cannot do that, only to hear "its only a socket".
The result is often they do it themselves and often, not at all well. Scares me to death what some people do, to be honest.
