Ok so i have been an electricians mate for 16 years now and im good at my job and i like my job.I rememeber when i first started out and everybody use to say go to college.Anyway i work for a large firm in leeds now and although i am on good money i know i am better than alot of the people working there and other people think this too.I look back now and think i should have taken everybodys advice and gone to college i dont know why i didnt.so Ive been looking at the short courses you can do etc and they just seem to be a rip off.so does anybody know what the good courses are.i kniw i would fly through the practical side of things but the theory side would be tougher how can these fast track courses gaurantee you a pass in weeks when there is so much theory to learn?

go speak to Leeds City College or the Building college just off Dewsbury road. a far cheaper route for you. there are night courses a couple of hours a week.

Well i went to the leeds building college open day today. So i get told they dont do night courses only block and day release.Anyway was still willing to do the day release and everything seemed ok.Then i get told that because i am self emplyed i cannot do the course.Im gutted about this and cannot understand the logic behind this at all.So does anybody know where i can go to study?

Tht's crazy tht they wont let u go on the course because ur self employed.

Tex if i were u id go back and add a little BS and say ur employed part time or fulltime to the company u work for, TexasElectrical. ie urself, obviously leaving out tht ur working for urself if u get wot i mean lol.

The college route is the cheapest but the longest, but as uv waited 16 years a couple more wont hurt.

Really the fast track courses were intended for people like urself with over 10 years experience but no visable qualifications, but if u cant afford tht route tell a little white lie and get urself off to college.

Night classes are better if ur slightly older as the classes are usually made up of middle aged peeps, day classes tend to be full of 17-24 yo.

I prefer to do a day class and just get my head down and do the work and leave the young kids to sit at the back talking about girls and eminem lol

They said they needed a letter from empolyer and a copy of public liability insurance as proof of been on the books.I phoned the jib and they have never heard of such a rule.Anyway it was day release and i have found a place that does night classes now it is a bit further but like you say night school would be better and the bloke at leeds seemed an arrogant a***hole to be honest.
