hello , I don't mean to be bitter but recently I became CIS and to my experience there seems to be a lot of chancers these days who have obtained Jib ECs electrician cards by carrying out courses over the internet as I have witnessed. where I myself had to gruel out a 3 to 4 year apprenticeship before i became an electrician ,nowadays i have become an approved electrician.is there a way to tell on the jib card between non apprenticeship electricians and electricians that have done the apprenticeship route? so in the future I could say" I'm not working with him and carrying him all the time" LOL, it does mention industry assessed on mine? Thankyou :rockon2:

It depends what qualifications they declare when filling the form I think. Some I've seen say Completed Apprenticeship and AM2 some just say you have 17th Edition. As long as you fit thr criteria for Electrician status I don't think it matters. I doubt that you gain a Gold Card just by doing courses over the Internet.

1. you do not need nvq l3 to get gold card if trained prior to 1996.
2. theres nothing you can do over the internet that will get you a gold card.
3. routes to electrician grade will be either indentured apprenticeship or industry assessed , this will be recorded on the back of card.

and i agree with welchys comment. :)

Dont worry Skid, the foremen on sites know the difference.
Someone of a particular age should have a certain no of years experience and confidence, when being given a task to do is when the foreman will spot a problem/hesitation.
IE a 30 yearold ***SPARK*** should have 10 years confidence, experience, competence and it is soon spotted if that is not there. And as you say true sparks generally distance themselves from the ........imposter and you get what looks like personallity clashes.
The biggest problem is that these sort of people generally dont declare themselves and take forever with random tasks because they are doing things from memory not from experience.
Seen it sooooooooooo many times in recent years on reasonable sized sites.
