Help

I have a friend how runs a stable and he wants to electrify his horse walker so when the horses go slow or stop the touch a metal rod which gives them a little shock so they start moving again !

Has anyone done anything like this before ?

It is a manual horse walker currently so when one stops they all stop.I am trying to push him into doing some kid of mechanical device with a large spur ring gear and a electric motor which on the face of it seems a lot safer. However a previous electrican said it could be done albeit 2 years ago and they have now lost contact with him.

I was also thinking you could adapt a electric fence type device which presents no danger to animals. But need to get power to the middle of the horse walker and then feed out to each of the 4 arms ,all cables in metal conduit.I need some sort of device with contacts like a armature with brushes to take power off to each arm or some round plate with copper tracks in it of which contacts would run.Anybody get the idea ?
I might have to read the small print in my liability insurance as this seems to be fraught with possible danger and I keep having images of horses speeding around out of control.
Any advice and a direction as to were to start would be much appreciated.
Thank you:confused:

What? You want to give horses an electric shock every time they stop? Is that what you're saying?

Dude, I'm no vegetarian, but I would imagine the RSPCA would have something to say about that. If horses stop and don't respond to a bit of an 'ayyy up' that means they are tired.

I would stay clear of that set up, it's too dodgy. Very dodgy. Talk about flogging dead horses, your name will be on it along with the trainer..

It's simple to do, but I ain't going to tell you how to do it

Yep thats right ,some stables have them.I have spent loads of time on google and you can can get them.I am trying to find one local so I can go and have a look.
I am not keen on doing it but he is a good friend and gives me quite a bit of work so I will come up with something but either price it to high or just decline.
He used to have his dogs fitted with electrifying collars so when they went of his land they got a little shock so they got to know where the boundries were.A standard product on the market however I bet it was not endorsed by the Kennel club !

Oh go on, might save me a trip out to another stables to have a look.

Thanks

If it's not for medicinal purposes then it is illegal. Electric fences come under 'safe guarding live stock' which is justifiable.
I have in the past worked at racing stables / safai parks. I have never seen this type of system before.
Although I have no doubt it does go on.

Think your mate wants reporting to the RSPCA and Police or better still stick him on the walker and see how he likes it.

Sounds like the tricks the Nazis and others got upto during wars to humans except thats called TORTURE

We had something similar a few years back it was a dog collar and you could give the dog a little jolt every time it mis behaved, they were banned and now illegal as an item of torture.

Interesting little project Roger.I have been working along similar lines. What I would like to do is design a system I could fit to my Wife's exercise bike.Something that would give her a little jolt of 230 every time she slowed to under 60 MPH.Only for the first hour of course,I am not completely heartless. No so easy to do,so a bit help needed.

Get your friend to contact the horse walker manufacturer there are specific kits for this purpose like a electric fencing unit

And to all you non horsey people ,horse walkers are to exercise the horses so as to allow gentle exercise ,we're not talking about sticking a cattle prod up there **** its a standard attachment for horse walkers
