any body know where i can get the tool to release the cable from them spring loaded push fitting things on ballasts... currently using a small terminal type device and a paper clip..!

must be a tool out there but i cant find it!

I don't know of a special tool being commercially available. However, I made one up out of a piece of dowelling (handle) and a small twist drill (fluted part glued into handle with epoxy). It works a treat! Before making this tool I used to use a small jewellers screw driver ... but I kept losing them.

If someone knows of a tool spill the beans, like Markie I’ve used jewellers screwdrivers but it’s all to easy to damage the terminal. Whoever designed them in the first place wants shooting.

yeah me too... i dont normally care but recently i been moving them around as well while parts are on order to light up staircases and stuff...!! hmmm.. yes dragons den...!! can just image me going on with a tiny piece of metal and saying lend us 50k!!

I seen people come on for more money for worse than that mate :)

There is such a thing... for releasing individual flat crimped contacts on a multipole connector housing.
I used them on my previous job but can't think what the connector brand was. But it was just like a biro barrel with a piece of 0.5mm dia stainless wire sticking out the end.

We also used the Wago insertion/release tool for the cage clamp terminals - it's just like a short, bent terminal driver - the tip is maybe 4mm wide but the tip is ground to a much thinner tip than a screwdriver.

Simon.

Hi Durham, I was taking to a sparky mate about this ... when he said "Oh you mean like the Wago IDC special tool that fits Osram and other HF control gear" ... later he phoned to say his Wago tool is marked Part No. 0206-0831 (206-831 in Wago catalogue)... I've tried searching the Wago UK website without success ... Maybe it's been discontinued?View attachment 8634

Found it on another site!

what about a ratchet tape wrench,
I have had one of these in my toolbox for years, and they are useful to use when tapping in tight corners
