Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of joining Elesca after crimbo. If I do a ccu change for the assesment, will the assesor want to watch me do the install, or just the testing part after? I will be testing the house before I do it to make sure there are no probs. Or, can I use a ccu job that Ive already done a few weeks before if I cant do one at the time of my asesment?
I'm subbing at the minute just testing new rewires all day every day but the company I'm doing it for are already NICEIC registered so just in case the work drys up, I'd like to be registered myself. I should be ok on the testing side of things, just want to know what other things to expect.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers

Jay

I think most of them let you use jobs you have completed within the last 6 - 12 months.

They will assess your knowledge of the regs and probably want to see you perform certain tests to make sure you know what you're doing.

They will also want to check you have all relevant books (Regs, On-site Guide, EAWR etc.) and paperwork (past certs, H&S policy, complaints procedure etc.)

It tells you all about it in HERE

You do relaise that as an individual you can not join a scheme. You either have to be a company with a QS or a sole trader. Unlike Gas safe where the engineer is registered the governemt decided that it should be companies that are registered and not the actual electrician......where they got this from is still a matter of great amusement in my local pub.

So you will have to start yourself up as a sole trader and as Jud says all that entails

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replys. Im already a sole trader and registered as self employed and at the moment Im doing some sub contracting work but dont know how long its going to last. So I would like to be registered with elesca so I can sign off my own work when I do some for anyone else.

Cheers

On the date of my assessment, I hadn't officially registered as a sole trader. They never came back and said I couldn't join

hi, quick question thats been bugging me, ive recently qualified and been subcontracting to various companies
(mainly doing schools, hospitals, liberaries etc and lots of fire alarms, done a large batch of new build flats and houses and revry recently done a few large shop fitting and comercial jobs) ive never been involved with testing a job as most companies have a 'tester' they like to use!

all of the jobs ive been involved in have been part of a team of sparks and many come and go. recently work has gone quite and many of the firms ive worked for are keeping their direct men in work and not allocating any work to the subies!

im good mates with a 'team' of builders, plumbers, plasters etc who are allways passing work to each other. their electrician is thinking about retiring and have asked if i could do the electrical work when hes done.

main question is what job would they like to see that ive completed?

they want you to have 2 jobs for them to see, i had one notifiabe, which was at my own house, and one non notifiable at my brothers house, which kept things straight forward. both jobs must be completed and signed off, the notifiable one should be notified to building control and signed off by them. I didnt do that and no one really said anything about that. That saved me 280 pounds. im not saying thats what will happen with you. I joined the niceic domestic installer scheme, which was quite straightforward really. i would suggest that you try the nic, its a better known brand than the others and carries more status with your customers.

yes my first job was a cu change, and a shower. but my second one, the minor works,a fused spur to a boiler was nearly my undoing. i thought that he would be happy with the notifiable job and just have a quick glance at the minor job., i forgot to check the earth bonding and i didnt know where it was situated in the house. only a lot of winking to my brother and quick thinking of his part got me to the correct place to show the assessor that it had been looked at.
