Hello,

First post... hope its not too daft a question.

Just had brand new connection installed by REC to a new build project: Overhead supply, Concentric cable to meter and cut out.

The REC installers have undertaken an earth loop impedance measurement and have written the result on the board. Result = 0.31 Ohms. I am aware that this falls within the acceptable limits for TN-C-S / PME systems, but there is no specific indication of PME being available (i.e. an accessible earth terminal / PME stickers, etc) and there are no PME symbols on Poles in the immediate vicinity.

To supplement the above, the neighbour has an earth terminal installed at the cut out, but his electrician has seen fit to disconnect this and move to a TT system (i got the impression that this was fairly recently too, maybe a year or so).

Would you install PME system in this instance or would you prefer go down the TT route?

Thanks in advance

Tim

Agreed.

If they supply an earth, then as you say, there should be a terminal, TNS or TNCS.

Have a look at the right hand side of the cutout.

You may find they have just removed the knockout so you can connect straight into it. Sometimes they dont even do that!

I have had this a couple of times.

Contact the supply authority they have/will tell you what type of supply they have given you.

Good luck with that, after 3 conversations with 3 different people, my parents have been told "we cant tell you that, your electrician should know". Bleeding call centres.

Thanks for the quick responses... I will attempt to contact the Supplier again today to confirm exactly what has been installed.

The earth terminal is certainly present within the cut out, knock out has not been opened up by the supplier, as per Jason's description.

Thanks again

Tim

The problem is the DNO are the only ones who can confirm PME
They alone know if the neutral has been spiked along its lenghth

Having said that I would be surprised ,given they have left a reading,if it is not PME,but it would be too dodgy to just presume that it is

My sentiments exactly. I want unequivocal confirmation from the supplier that its PME before it's connected up as such!
