Does anyone know how I can determine how much wattage a 105va transformer can hold and how to calc it? Not done this type of thing since college and use to using 1 transformer for 1 light

Watts = VA x PF

Just to clarify then its 105 x 0.8 = 84
so that transformer could carry 84 watts

A 105va lighting transformer will be good for 2 x 50w lamps or 3 x 35watt hence the strange 105 value.

Yes i read all the posts .... i think Sintra has misled you here although not arguing against his formula the va rating of a electronic lighting transformer if stated for the load side will be VxA the PF value given on the transformer is the effect on the supply side, the electronics will either bring PF to unity on the load side or the va value stated is compensated ..either way just treat the va value on these transformers as wattage.

If PF was applied to the load side a electronic transformer the 50-60 va ones you fit to a 50watt lamp would be to small.

Alot of lighting transformers do give the output in wattage anyway but yes ive seen alot in VA just make sure its not the input rating.
