Emergency light dilemma

Hi I had to relamp quite a few light fittings yesterday, as I come to change the emergency fittings they wouldn't work unless I disconnected the battery I checked feeds and switch lines both there, I couldent see the date on the Battery the fittings have a electronic starter. Any light on this would be great.

If you disconnected the battery then they must have just gone into maintained mode seeing as you say they have a switch lineand a perm live. Sounds like the battery is not charging and having an effect on the fittings operation.
