I have a client who is supplying his own modular lighting, bought from an online wholesaler. He has bought the standard units with emergency conversion kits, is his "handy man" allowed to install these kits for me to install and test? Or should I install and test? I do not want to upset the customer, but I want the job legit. All suggestions welcome.

Don't see any reason why a handyman couldn't do it just depends how handy he is with electrics. My choice would be to get him to mount all the conversion gear and then do the wiring yourself as you can check it as you go

The thing is they want the Handy Man to do all the wiring in the conversion, they have me install the fittings and test them with his wiring on the converted units.Where exactly do I stand with someone with no electrical qualifications doing the wiring?

just a quick look at the conversion packs to confirm its doen correctly when the fittings are made in the factory its not electricians who do it there probably some 5 yrold if they are made abroad so Handy man should be able to do them but check them as you would before fitting any fitting

The bottom line is that when you sign the certificates, you are certifying the installation is correct, not the manufacture of the products installed.

You will have to make sure that the client is aware of the fact that as he is supplying the lights to you as free issue, any faults with the fitting will not be covered by any warranty that you may provide to your wiring installation.

The handyman installs them, hes been paid, all Good.....You come along to test, find fault with 1,(2,3,4,etc)..Youve got to check each one and find the Fault/s......Extras..Please client...""But we were told they were O.K""- says client...who mysteriously cant find Handyman...so you swallow his earnings...Whatever you do...Make sure its start to finish...with people you trust...Be Lucky!!!

I agree you should have your client sign something to the effect that if the lights do not work then this will be down to the client to have them repaired at his expense and not yours as it is something he has had done by a third party and you are not liable for the fittings not working.
