Hi,

i have been asked today to design a new emergency lighting installation for a commercial building. i am a C&G 2330 level 3 electrician and have dealt with a few smaller emergency lighting problems in the past but never a new system of this scale. i have got copies of regs and guides for emergency lighting installations but was wondering if there were any things it would be handy to know before commencing this project. any advice would be welcome.

thanks,

All I can say is please be aware of your responsibilities as a designer and of the requirements of competency in BS 5266.

Hare's some basic advice:

Depending on the contract size, manufacturers the likes of JSB etc. may do you a free design.

Thank you for that link. i have read through it and my design meets all requirements and all seems ok. i have seen a lot of these systems but have never done from scratch before. it looks like as long as i adhere to everything carefully i shouldnt have many issues. in terms of testing and certification what is the best way for that to be carried out if every light is independent and fed from a local lighting circuit?
