I've been asked to price a large college for emergency light testing and the only info I have to go on at the moment is square meterage. It's quite a distance from me so a site survey is not an option just yet. Anyone got any tips on pricing by the square meter????

A site survey is really the answer unless you can get the following info.
1. location of test switches (if any) and number.
2. location and number of light fittings and type
3. are emegency lights visual numbered.
4. test requested, every 6 months or every 3 months.

With information there will be 1 x 3 hour test and either 1 or 3 x 1 hour test
So you need to work out your time on site and time to record all light numbers and locations

More info needed.

(1) do they want a full yearly test?
(2) or a monthly / quarterly?
(3) do they want the testing done inside college hours?
(4) will you have full access to all rooms etc or will it have to be done in parts?

well allow a couple of days to do the Job, go around and break all keys the first couple / 3 hours Noting when they were turned off and after 3 hours start walking back around checking them, with the size of the school it may take a whole day to test the lot, and another day to prepare the snagging list and paperwork, you may well get some work out of it sso keep it tight, if you only got to worry about your wages then don't over do it due to the fact headteachers work in cluster groups of 6 these days as well, make one happy you may end up doing 6 haha.

Just clarify with them what paper work they want, if they want individual certs then the job is a different kettle of fish

You would have thought they'd have a switch to flick on and off to engage an override. Not on each PIR but an actual light switch
