Emergency lighting

Does any one know why some maintained running men em lights are linked out so there perm on & why some are not? I thought they all needed to be linked out, but after seeing a couple of super store refits, it appears not!
Any ideas what page of bs5266 or elec guide to em lighting you can find the info?

maintained is permanently on. non-maintained is only on when supply fails.

Sure there will be some good answers to follow mine ,i dont have a copy of bs5266 but of the top of my head thought that the maintained ones were on the escape routes.

sometimes Maintained are also used in shops offices to show safe route (eg from door to back office or main lighting switch posistion)at all times and provide lighting like what use to be known as"Police" lights so that PCPlod could see any intruders while walking his beat(dont work to well these days as most beats are done in comfort of cars

maintained have sw live & perm live terminals, you can link out perm & sw terminals so the fittings on all of the time, even with loss of power for up to 3hrs depending on the batteries condition. some maintained em lights (not running men) use the sw live to be turned on & off with norm lights, but have a perm supply incase of loss of power so the em part kicks in. What i meant earlier was some of the super stores i look after, the running men maintained em lights after recent store refits have not had the perm & sw terminals linked out with the perm supply, so the em r/m light is only lit during loss of power, i thought all r/m maintained em lights needed to be linked out, i wondered if any one new other wise?
