The EST have written out to everyone one their database that has expressed an interest in renewables informing them of changes to MCS procedures.

Here is the letter:

"To benefit from the Feed-in Tariff scheme or the planned domestic RHI scheme your renewables system must be registered on the MCS Installation Database.
If you have already installed a renewables system in your home that was to MCS standards but the system has not yet been registered with MCS and you do not yet have the MCS certificate, please be aware that the UK Government and MCS have set a deadline of 4pm on 22 October 2013 for this registration to have happened. The UK Government and MCS have agreed that any historical installations must be registered on the MCS Installation Database by this date and cannot be registered thereafter. Your installer must register the system for you and then send you the certificate. If this deadline will affect you please therefore get in touch with your installer as soon as possible.
If you are planning on installing in the future then the deadline of the 22 October does not apply to you. For future installations your installer has 10 days from the date of completion to register the installation with MCS."

Cant really see what the difference is to what we do already but it has led to a couple of panic calls from this weeks installs.......

Note carefully also what they are saying ... 10 days between completion/commissioning and when you register it. We have always registered them on the day of commissioning (even if it meant working beyond 5pm :) ), must be pretty tardy guys to have let it go more than 10 days. So you just need to be sure that the date you commissioned it is no more than 10 days earlier than the date you are registering it.

All MCS registered companies got that email a while ago - we got ours on the 23rd September.

could be an issue on new builds where they can't get registered for FIT until the EPC is done, and can't get an EPC until the house is pretty much finished, particularly a multiple house situation where it might make more sense to leave all the paperwork and do it all at once..

Other than that, it shouldn't be a problem - but then mistakes do sometimes happen, and it's a bit harsh to take away the ability to register it after 10 days - eg if the customer has been on holiday, so doesn't realise there's no MCs cert, then get's told - sorry, it's too late.

I don't really understand what the point of this is - what purpose is it meant to be serving?
