ESWA Ceiling Heating Fault!

Right guys,

Got called out to a job with faulty ceiling heating, the house has eswa ceiling heating in pretty much everyroom, 3 storey house with an MCB for each floor. the top floor has a bathroom ceiling heating and thats the only room on that floor with cwiling heating, and its not working. So i changed out a thermostat from a know working room to eliminate the possibility of a faulty stat, still no luck. After taking a bit more time to think, i remember a slight buzzing coming from the CU controlling the ceiling/underfloor heating (thats right, theres a seperate CU just for the ceiling/UF heating) so im thinking if it could be a faulty MCB? Before anyone says, i did check for voltage coming to the thermostat, and input voltage was definitely present. If not faulty MCB then maybe a wiring fault? or fault to the matting?

never had experience with ceiling heating before so im a little bit thrown by it as i was initially told UF heating by the landlord.

if anyone could provide assistance I would be most greatful.

Think you have just go to apply normal fault finding logic and don't let the fact that it's something you are not particularly experienced in throw you. What is the nature of the "heating" element?; do you know the resistance of a good/working circuit? Just break it down into logical steps.

Regards.

could well be a dodgy MCB. voltage is there till you load it, then it disappears due to a poor contact inside the MCB. quickest solution is to swap it. that will either prove it or eliminate it.

edit: make sure the busbar is not behind the clamp on the MCB.

All the Eswa ceiling heating systems I have dealings with have been trouble , nearly allways a fault with the mat breaking down , stats are also very iffy , especially the electronics , there is also a probe above the ceiling on most off them , I used to do the maintenance on an estate that had these systems and allways ended up putting in storage heating and disconnecting the Eswa heating , good luck with that one!!!!

Replaced mcb for a known working spare on the van, which i found coincidently! Still no change and after further investigqtion discoveres a fault with the heating mat, customer has now decided to scrap the ceiling heating and get one of the towel rails in the bathroom changed to a 2kw convection rad, i was quite suprised to see 3 electric towel rails in the bathroom if im honest! So decided to go along with the idea as the bathroom isnt massive.

Any opinions on 2kw radiator efficiency guys? Cant remember the manufacturer of the one ive ordered up it is rated IPX4 of course.
