Discuss EV charge point 6mm cable??? Help! in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Just some thoughts as a user. We have both original and type 2 Tesla units installed. They are both limited to 32Kw and that is set on the charger unit and also by the in car system.

We were early adopters and it was clear that a TT system was essential. I have no expertise on cable sizes, but as was suggested above (but I am doing so more forcibly) you will seriously regret it if you don't put in a good data cable and wi fi point very close to the charger. The charger instructions don't make this clear.

The reason is that Tesla release 3 types of update. and they do it quite often. Standard, advanced (beta) and maps. especially for full spec cars with autosteer etc. (Waste of money - don;t spec that.....) Some of these will take quite a while to download, and you really don't want to interrupt that or have it fail on a slow wi-fi if you can possibly avoid it, as you can end up with a blacked out and unusable car for ages (4 or 5 hours). NEVER risk doing the updates during the day when you might want to use the car.

If you interrupt a maps update and it fails, then this ever so helpfully takes out all satnav, maps, destinations and all supercharger location guidance, as well as spotify and sometimes the radio and voice recognition too.

Thanks for your input. Wi-Fi already available in the garage and I will be asking for the data cable for future proofing.

What type of cable will you be using? 22m isn’t a long run, and with certain types of cable there is no need for conduit.
Fair enough, if 6mm is all that will fit in the conduit and that is the only way then you’ll have to spec everything else around the cable rather than speccing cable around charger.

Can imagine getting a 6mm through an existing conduit of 22mm with a cable already in might have some challenges in it’s self. Obviously not been to job.
