paulthe spark

Quoted neighbour a few weeks ago for a consumer unit change and upgrade bonding, went out to see job and advised him to contact supply company to upgrade tails to 25m and upgrade meter.Advised him to do this before i change unit. He seemed happy with my reasonable quote and said he would contact me once supply company had done their bit and i could go back and change the consumer unit. Everyone happy. Today get in from work and note through my door saying the meter installer has upgraded the meter and decided to change the consumer unit at the same time so he let him get on with it. Obviously this chap came in with a better quote than mine was just really hit home how it really is a dog eat dog world out there. Was counting on the money as well. Has anyone else had this kind of experience? The chap gave me a tenner along with the note for my trouble so not all bad news

Yeh! ask yer customer just for the record did he give you a cert with his bill, and if not tell him ,and enjoy it , that the jobs up the kyber due to him not giving you the cert.

best of it is if i just done the job without advising the customer to contact supply company i would have got job done, got paid no problem, but because i was following the rules its actually cost me the job in a sense.

I know what i would do if no cert was issued and the fitter was not registered.

1. Call his boss
2. Call LABC

Though the fitter might well be registered and have done all the paperwork correctly.

Guess you will be changing tails yourself in future

yep defo m8

Most meter fitters are sparks now anyway, apart from a lot that work for scottish power, Im doing the meters now self employed and im a registered spark so meter fitter or spark, dont matter who does it, chances are he would have been registered unless like i said hes working for sp or somehting.
I done a course through the contractor i get the work off along with another 20 guys they employ direct, every one of them qualified sparks.

i lost a job this week a guy wanted a quote for a new 8 way consumer unit i asked him if he had a quote and he claims he had one for fiver short or 300quid i advised him he needed new meter tails and bonding to gas and water theres no way he got a quote for all tht less thn 300quid i went in at 365 with he cert and never got the job i think people want it all dont for like 150 quid parts supplyed fitted and certified i realy need the money aswell but they aint got a hope in hell of getting all tht done for muppet money dream on deam dream dream dreeeeeeeeeammmmmmmmmm dreaming lmao

does anybody here give out leaflets about part p compliance or registered domestic installers and the like when quoting etc. hopefully to warn customers off the chancers who can afford to undercut for obvious reasons

yeah all my leaflets mention about part p and niceic registration i must of posted about 1000 and i think iv landed my second job frm em now unreal, its seems tht the words PART P and niceic registered regulated fully insured dont mean a thing! its a joke us guys aint got a hope in hell wile there muppets out there operating unregistered wile displaying the niceic logo on there adds and there vans and quoting 850quid for a full rewire to a 5 bed house its pathetic! the sooner tht woman in the nic gets her word across the better!
