hope this makes sense. Can I crimp connect inside a socket to extend a leg of the ring to another socket on the other side of a wall to go on the ring final. There is already a spur off this socket and it is impossible to get any boards up etc!

if your crimp connection is rated for the circuit and your cable through the wall meets regs then Yes, dont crimp with the cheap blue/red crimpers you can pick up for a couple of quid these are not good enough for crimping anything more than your car stereo use recognised crimpers they cost about ÂŁ15 to ÂŁ25 for red/blue/yellow crimp lugs.

I always use crimps rather than terminal strip. think its more secure and also doesnt have to be accesable for inspection like a terminal strip would be.

I think its classed as a cold soldered joint???? anyone know??

also think your not supposed to crimp strandard cores, again does anyone know??

crimps are classified as a mechanical joint so in theory dont need to be accessible. Also dont crimp flex, stranded is ok eg 6mm T&E but not the fine wires as in flex.

I also need to extend to move a floor box to the wall as the owner wants a new flat floor. Am thinking about crimping and leaving the joint below the floor. Will heat shrink as well to seal off the cable from moisture though.

Why?????
I have crimped and used bootlace ferules on flex for years and it is much better than a screw terminal on flex which chews it up.
