Hi all. I would like to ask a question about extending the cables when moving a consumer unit. Is it acceptable to use an adaptable box with the correct size through crimps and heat shrink within the box? If this is acceptable then would this box need to be accessible or not as I would be using an appropriate compression tool (ratchet crimper)?. Thanks

that would be fine, if you have enough cable or can move cu crimp inside without heatshrinking

Keep seeing this about butt crimps within CU's don't require heatshrink.... Would anyone actually leave an exposed phase or neutral crimp connection within a CU?? I always stipulate pre heatshrink covered crimp connectors, with a final appropriately colour coded heatshrink sleeve. No way would i allow any bare/exposed crimp conections in any circumstances on any of my projects.

Or, am i getting the wrong end of the stick here and your talking about PVC covered butt crimps, and not plain uninsulated crimps?? ...lol!!!

Use good quality crimps. Do a trial, if you use pliers to loosen the crimp, or twist the cable extensively, eventually it will come out from the crimp. The good crimps will have left some lateral indents on the copper. Cheap ones will not. I always heatshrink even with the insulated variety.

i would not use heatshrink over insulated crimps if they were inside an enclosure.
