Good afternoon all,

I have got a CU to change that I am going to use for my NICEIC assessment but I don't think the cables are going to be long enough, I know all connections have to be accessible for inspection so if I use insulated crimps to extend the cable will this be acceptable by the assessor providing they are within the new CU and can be seen? If I understand it right with them being permanent connections they don't have to be available for inspection but it just seems good practice to me to have them in the CU rather than tuck them back into the wall.

Also would the assessor question who had fitted an isolator switch before the CU to allow the tails to be moved?

Cheers

Crimps will be Acceptable, I would leave them in the CU , some others on here have put them in a piece of wide trunking at the top or bottom outside of the CU which looks nice and neat.

Even neater still is an adaptable box with DIN rail terminals for the extensions, just remember to include the dual wiring colours sticker whichever method you use.

Ps. soldering and sleeving is also acceptable.

Twist wires together and put B&Q tape over it. I'm joking lads, don't have a go at me ;).

Spark 68 has given the best advice, adaptor box if you've got the space or crimp if you haven't.

Tell us which way you go and what the asessor says. Good luck.

Thanks chaps, it's in a cramped under stair cupboard (the ones that are at the perfect height for banging your head!) I like the idea of using a piece of trunking, it'll keep the new CU nice and tidy then. I'll let you know how things go - I've got the 2391 resit next month too so a nice couple of stressful weeks ahead!

If it has floor boards under the CU where you'll be sat for the majority of the day, if they're loose take them out so you can put your legs through and sit instead of kneel. Thats what i do if it's possible. :wink5:
