Been asked to move supply for a pizza oven in a fast food outlet,it's currently wired in 16 mm but could I use 10 mm to extend via Lucy blocks or stick with 16? I have plenty of 10 but no 16 but want to do the job right.

oven is 50 a an cable will be in 50 x50 PVC trunking

Many thanks in advance

Changing, especially reducing, cable CSA in mid run would be very bad practice. The next sparky may replace the MCB in the CU according to the cable size he sees and this would leave the 10mm section open to overload.

You can buy 16mm by the meter at the wholesalers, the cost of which you pass onto the client. However if you say it is only 6m to the DB why not renew the whole run rather than putting a join in?

I reduced a lighting circuit from 2.5mm to 1.5mm the other day. 2.5mm was in there to due to voltage drop, and didn't fancy trying to terminate 2.5 into switches and pendants. Not quite the same thing, I know. Hope I don't get shot!

Just wondering how any electrician would even think of reducing the supplying cables CSA on a high current bit of equipment. Or come to that, putting a joint in the system when we're only talking about 6 metres to the DB!!

Has anyone even bothered to assess and/or calculate the correct size of cable for this Pizza oven??
