Hey all

I'm replacing a socket, but the earth wire isn't long enough so I need to extend it. I have bought these from screwfix:

Ideal SpliceLine In-Line Wire Connectors Pack of 10 - http://www.screwfix.com/p/ideal-spliceline-in-line-wire-connectors-pack-of-10/42201

I just have a couple of questions about the process. Firstly, the earth cable consists of two individual wires sleeved together. Should I be using one connector on each wire separately? Secondly, assuming I do use one connector on each wire, how would I go about sleeving them after the join? Should they be sleeved together again? And finally, what type of wire should I be using for the extension? Will any copper wire do? Something like this?

Unplated Copper Round Wire (1.0mm x 10m):Amazon.co.uk:Kitchen & Home - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00L2AG3B2/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1491381020&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=copper+wire&dpPl=1&dpID=41eIZtF7AFL&ref=plSrch

Thanks

Me thinks calling an electrician who should do this for a minimum charge. Where are you in the UK.

Agree what he said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

those connectors are OK for what you need, but how can you be sure that you've done it safely. we use sophisticated test equipment to make sure you have a reliable earth and that the modification is safe to use. what price yours and your family's lives?

Get a spark for a few quid
You appear to be out of your depth with a very simple task and giving advice in this instance would not be wise
The links to poor choice materials would probably make the costing greater than having a tradesman to do this simple task ,he would also check his efforts with test meters usually not possessed by the average DIY guy

I can do it myself. I really can't spare the money. I just need help with those points I mentioned please.
