exterior light

quick question

installing exterior light power coming from downstairs socket spur.cable coming through wall and up to light on exterior wall
Do i need to place cable in conduit /trunking or can i clip direct to wall ? without mechanical protection

if you want to clip direct a short run up the outside wall to light i'd recommed fp200 cable , it clips neater than t&e.
pvc conduit is better but can be a pain to connect into the bottom of some types of decorative light

not unless you consider it to be at risk from damage. personally, i'd use 20mm pvc conduit throgh wall and up to a IP 55 adaptable box adjacent to the light, then black flex from box to light. both cable entries at the bottom of the box.

H05 or H07 black is ideal for clipping direct. Conduit if there's a chance of damage.

I wouldn't have said it NEEDS protection from sunlight, as long as you use black flex it'll be fine

Wasn't really talking about black flex just a general statement about protection.
How many times have you seen T&E clipped round the house with the insulation rotten.
