Hi,
I have an external SWA cable to install between a garage and a large shed. Does the SWA need to be RCD protected at the Garage end or can it come off its own breaker in the garage CU? The shed end will be conected to a 'garage' CU and have itsown earth spike.

Thanks for the reply - The connection at the Garage CU will be on the Main Switch side of the CU, I have currently in place an RCBO but the problem is that the RCBO in the garage trips befoe the RCD in the shed and I would like to prevent this. Options as far as I can see would be to replace the RCBO for an MCB therefore the shed is relying on its own RCD or remove the SWA from the garage CU and connect via an 'S' type RCD if RCD protection is a requirement for the SWA.

If the earthing system for the garage is TT, then you need to rcd protect the swa to the shed

If you are installing the swa at this time I dont understand how it was determined that
the Rcbo in the garage trips before the rcd in the shed, when it appears that it is not yet installed
